La légende raconte que Bond Street, à Noho, doit son nom à une fantaisie soudaine. Au début du XVIIIe siècle, un banquier influent du nom de Samuel Ward vivait dans un somptueux hôtel particulier à l'angle de Broadway et d'une rue adjacente sans nom. Pourquoi ne pas donner à cette rue un nom évoquant la profession bancaire ? se demanda Samuel Jones, un avocat local influent de l'époque, qui avait déjà baptisé Great Jones Street à son nom.
